Welcome to our
beach

Stroll Along
With Us
Hi! Welcome!
Hard to believe that we are
beginning the 8th month of the year. Summer is almost gone and the
new school year is about to begin. You can tell by the huge displays
in the stores for school related items.
It has been a grand
summer for us down on the beach. Not just several
thousand people coming in for the beach and fireworks on the
4th of July, but this island of 50,000 had over 200,000 people crowd
in for that weekend. Traffic was horrendous! Who says you can't
have fun close to home?!
After seeing the horrible tornado
destruction in the midwest this year, the fires in California,
and what Hurricane Dolly did to South Texas, we have included
a new book that will give you all the information you need to be
prepared for any major disaster. It's about midway down the
page.
Of course, we have included 4 articles and 2 books on
healthy eating and exercise. These two subjects go hand in hand for
living a healthy life. If you take these offerings to heart, you
will be more healthy and can avoid fad diets, the latest pill, and,
hopefully, processed foods which are a leading cause of health
problems today.
We mentioned the Monsanto Corp. a few issues
ago and the disturbing news about their endeavors. My, oh my! We
started our research through the scientific journals and got so
agitated and perplexed by what we were learning that we had to just
plain stop. All we can say at this point is that genetic engineering
and growth hormones are NOT a good thing. Our beliefs that eating healthy; using organic
foods; doing exercise; and reducing pollution is very well
founded which we will show once our stomachs stop turning so we can
complete our research.
Hey, we've got a
new book below on "Living
Green". Join us in living life the green
way!
Also, we have included a
little humor from Bill Engvall. Laughter, even a snicker, is a good
thing.
Everything we have included in this issue is totally
free of charge to you. You just have to take action and download the
books. THEN, use a little time to open and read them. Never can
tell, they just might have a point or two that will be of
help.
Now, just sit back, grab a cup of coffee,
and read
on.

Stupid people should have to wear signs that just say,
"I'm Stupid". That way you wouldn't rely on them, would you? You
wouldn't ask them anything. It would be like, "Excuse me...oops,
never mind. I didn't see your sign."
It's like before my wife and I moved. Our house was
full of boxes and there was a U-Haul truck in our driveway. My
friend comes over and says "Hey, you moving?"
"Nope. We just pack our stuff up once or twice a week
to see how many boxes it takes. Here's your sign."
A couple of months ago I went fishing with a buddy of
mine, we pulled his boat into the dock, I lifted up this big 'ol
stringer of bass and this idiot on the dock goes, "Hey, y'all catch
all them fish?" "No - We talked 'em into giving up. Here's your
sign."
I was watching one of those animal shows on the
Discovery Channel. There was a guy inventing a shark bite suit. And
there's only one way to test it. "Alright Jimmy, you got that shark
suit on, it looks good... They want you to jump into this pool of
sharks, and you tell us if it hurts when they bite you." "Well, all
right, but hold my sign. I don't wanna lose it!"
Last time I had a flat tire, I pulled my truck into
one of those side-of-the-road gas stations. The attendant walks out,
looks at my truck, looks at me, and I SWEAR he said, "Tire go flat?"
I couldn't resist. said, "Nope. I was driving around and those other
three just swelled right up on me! Here's your sign."
We were trying to sell our car about a year ago. A guy
came over to the house and drove the car around for about 45
minutes. We get back to the house, he gets out of the car, reaches
down and grabs the exhaust pipe, then says, "Darn that's hot!" See?
If he'd been wearing his sign, I could have stopped him.
I learned to drive an 18 wheeler
in my days of adventure. Wouldn't ya know I misjudged the height of
a bridge. The truck got stuck and I couldn't get it out no matter
how I tried. I radioed in for help and eventually a local cop shows
up to take the report. He went through his basic questioning..ok..no
problem. I thought sure he was clear of needing a sign...until he
asked "So.. is your truck stuck?" I couldn't help myself! I looked
at him, looked back at the rig and then back to him and said "no I'm
delivering a bridge...here's your sign."

Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure
(2)
It seems like
everywhere you look, there's a new pill or medicine that will
'instantly cure' your sickness, disease or health issue. And while
taking a pill to cure what ails you might be convenient and simple,
maybe it's really time to sit down and take a good, long look at
what you're feeding your body, or as it might be, not feeding your
body. Are you truly giving your body the nutrients it needs to take
care of itself? Most of us find when we take a look at what we've
been eating that the choices we've been making in the name of
convenience, simplicity, or saving time have actually been
detrimental to our overall health - body, mind and spirit.
Our modern day
diet largely consists of excessive consumption of starch, sugar,
fried and fatty foods. As a result, diseases such as hypertension,
diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer's and some cancers are becoming more
and more common.
Healthy foods
and good nutrition can not only help keep you fit, but treat disease
as well. You may not even have to go to a health food store. You can
purchase them right at your grocery store, or make a trip to your
local farmer's market. And if you focus on basing a healthy,
well-balanced diet on the 14 "Superfoods," the detrimental effects
of these diseases can be slowed, stopped or even reversed.
And when you
nourish your body physically with these nutrient-dense foods, your
mental capacities increase, and your spiritual wellness is enhanced
as well. In addition, since your spiritual health is optimal, it
will shine through to the outside, and people will notice you're
happy, calm, and that your stress levels have decreased
dramatically.
So look for
ways to cut the junk out of your daily eating and replace it with
members of the Superfoods group. Your body, mind and spirit will all
be healthier as a direct result.

Color Your Way to Daily Health
(3)
It's important that we eat plenty of
different fruits and vegetables every day. Diets rich in fruits and
vegetables may reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases.
Fruits and vegetables provide essential vitamins and minerals,
fiber, and other substances that are important for good health. Most
fruits and vegetables are naturally low in fat and calories and are
filling.
You've probably heard
about the 5 A Day for Better Health program. It provides easy ways to
add more fruits and vegetables into your daily eating patterns. It's
vital that we eat a wide variety of colorful orange/yellow, red,
green, white, and blue/purple vegetables and fruit every day. By
eating vegetables and fruit from each color group, you will benefit
from the essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that each color
group has to offer alone and in
combination.
There's several different
yet simple ways to start incorporating vegetables and fruit into
your familiar and favorite meals. You can begin your day with 100
percent fruit or vegetable juice, slice bananas or strawberries on
top of your cereal, or have a salad with lunch and an apple for an
afternoon snack. Include a vegetable with dinner and you already
have about 5 cups of fruits and vegetables. You may even try adding
a piece of fruit for a snack or an extra vegetable at dinner.
Don't be afraid to try
something new to increase your vegetable and fruit intake. There are
so many choices when selecting fruits and vegetables. Kiwifruit,
asparagus, and mango may become your new favorite. Keep things fresh
and interesting by combining fruits and vegetables of different
flavors and colors, like red grapes with pineapple chunks, or
cucumbers and red peppers.
Get in the habit of keeping
fruits and vegetables visible and easily accessible - you'll tend to
eat them more. Store cut and cleaned produce at eye-level in the
refrigerator, or keep a big colorful bowl of fruit on the
table.

Getting Your Nutrition from Real Food is a Good Habit
for Life (4)
Many people think popping a multi-vitamin
supplement to get their nutrients is just as good as what comes from
real foods. They don't realize that it is far better to get vitamins
and minerals from natural foods and juices. Our bodies utilize the
vitamins and minerals from real foods more efficiently. And most
people find it much easier to select a variety of whole foods they
enjoy eating instead of trying to make heads or tails of the entire
selection of vitamin and mineral supplements that are available. And
any of us who've swallowed a multi-vitamin or a mineral supplement
can say without a doubt that the taste leaves a lot to be
desired
Supplements are also difficult for our bodies
to break down and use, making it difficult to get the full punch
from the vitamins and minerals they contain. Conversely, by
consuming plenty of nutrient-dense food to get the equivalent means
the nutrients are going to be easier for the body to process and
utilize, and less likely to be wasted. We are also processing
nutrients throughout the course of the day when we obtain them from
food, instead of just getting them from the 'one a day' approach.
Many of the supplements available today use
fillers and binders to hold them together, plus coatings on the
tablets themselves. These are products the body does not need and
will not use. Some people find they are allergic to the dyes and
fillers used in vitamin pills. However, the body uses the fiber that
binds fruits and vegetables. Often the "skin" of a vegetable, like
the potato, is the most nutritious part. In addition, sometimes the
vitamin and mineral supplements can upset our stomachs, making
taking them even more difficult the next day. In many cases,
combining supplements can counteract their effectiveness and can
produce stomach upset when dealing with the taste and smell of some
supplements. On the other hand, a variety of fruits and vegetables
enhance the flavor of a nutritious meal and their fiber aids
digestion.
If you're looking to lose weight, eating
fresh food is vital to a weight loss plan. Also, eating fresh fruits
and vegetables help hair, skin and teeth stay attractive and
healthy. And when you think about it, fruits and vegetables are the
original 'to go' food. It's simple to grab for an orange, apple,
banana, grapes, or quickly toss a few vegetables together for a
salad to take to work.
So when you're looking for well-balanced,
healthy, reliable nutrition, don't reach for the bottle. Reach for
the food!

Due to the drought we have
been going through, the heat has been unbelievable in SE
Texas. And we slipped and changed our house setting from 78 to

Even doing so, our bill for June vs a year ago was

Weight Loss = Why You Can't "Spot
Reduce"
People have
problem areas. Even people, who have achieved their ideal body
weight, will still have problem areas. It could be the love handles,
the flabby arms, the sagging skin or the hips. Then you will find
the market offering all sorts of products, from creams and
applications to get rid of the fats to gadgets and machines to tone
the arms, thighs or the abs.
However, there
is one reality check you have to make. You cannot spot reduce. The
attempt to do so is not going to work and it will not be for your
good.
Why Can't I
Spot Reduce?
The market
misinforms the public of the benefits that can be expected from
their so-called revolutionary products when in fact there really are
no revolutionary results to look forward to.
1. Healthy Diet
Is Important
Diet is an important element to get rid of the
undesirable body fats. The foods that you eat have calories and
cholesterols that get stored in your body, probably amassing on
those problem areas of yours. The diet is the main culprit for
presence of fats.
So no matter
how much you depend on those gadgets in the market, it will remain
defenseless if you keep indulging in sweets, fatty foods or junk
foods.
2. Spot
Reduction Is a Mere Myth
It is not healthy to believe what those
people say about the productivity of spot reduction efforts. The
products you see on the market require nothing but merely attach or
apply them on the problem areas. What about your other body parts?
What about the other requirements of the body?
In any healthy
endeavors, you must be on the top of your physiology. You should
know what it takes to achieve a goal. For example, if you want
six-packs in your stomach, you have to know what it takes to get
them.
Some people out
there would claim that if you want to improve the look of your
stomach, you simply have to concentrate on abdominal exercises or
use the gadgets that will do the exercise for you. Again, you cannot
spot reduce. You cannot achieve the goal with simply doing that one
abdominal exercise.
The fat can not
just come off on its own by just using a gadget. Genetics has to do
with it. Diet has to do with it. Lifestyle has to do with it.
The truth is,
before you can even aim for the six-packs on the stomach, you will
have to take away the fats first.
So doing 500 crunches a day
will only exhaust you but it will not get rid of those fats. Your
body will not burn the fats stored in that spot you are targeting.
Actual workouts can actually address this. With this, the fats are
burned one at a time, and not just in one area. It has a more
integrated system of reducing the fats in the body.
Then you will
also have to gain body mass. At this point, the only way you can
only get rid of the fats and get some body mass is to have a healthy
diet and do cardio exercises.
Only after
surpassing the diet and cardio requirements can you focus on the
abdominal exercises. This is the only proper time to really focus on
working out for the six-packs.
3. There Are No
Shortcuts
Miracle diets, pills and potions are mere shortcuts
that will lead you to a dead end. If a healthy body is aimed, you
have to work for it. You have to earn it.
We truly are
living in a fast world with the advancement of technology, but your
body still is very much natural. Thus you will still have to be
grounded to what is naturally required by the body, healthy diet,
regular exercise and considerable amount of time to develop that
desirable state.
4. Health and
Fitness Require Commitment
Your dedication to the health of your
body is a lifelong commitment. Even if you achieved a good body now,
it will not remain so forever if you abuse on your diet and
lifestyle. It needs to be loved and taken care of, regularly.
That is why if
you will depend on the spot reduction claims, it will really bring
you nowhere. You can only hope, but you cannot expect. So if you aim
for the healthy body; get an exercise program for your self and make
some changes in your diet. Give your self a holistic development.
Improve not only the body, but your outlook in life as well.
Do It the
Proper Way
With all these
points raised, the bottom line is to simply get healthy the proper
way. The saying still holds true. No pain, no gain. So do not be a
victim of the misleading information and empty promises thrown upon
you. Simply know the proper options. Take the matter into your own
hands and enjoy the benefits of a healthy
body.
